Fri Nov 13 2009: Dreamed I saw a Desert Rose

We headed south on this early Friday morning towards Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, as Amy recommended it to us yesterday. The scenery around us was typical California desert which meant that the road was straight and flat, mountains to the right of us, and the Salton Sea to left of us.

On the way to Anza-Borrego, we rode past the Salton Sea behind Neda, which is actually 226 ft below sea level!
Gives you an idea of the range of elevations we are travelling through.

Huge valley in the Anza-Borrego Park.

After about 45 minutes, we turn into the mountains into the great bowl of the Anza-Borrego desert. We're the furthest south in our trip so far, about an hour away from the Mexican border.

Great places to stop and take pictures, as well as go for little hikes, as Neda is doing.

The Italians have a difference of opinions as to where to go next.

Anza-Borrego

At the end of the Ortega, we hit the San Diego freeway, which basically marked the end of our mini riding vacation. Thankfully we were heading into the city on a Friday afternoon, which meant we were going against traffic, but in with the population density as large as Los Angeles, it doesn't make that much of a difference. We did however find out that motorcycles could use the HOV lanes on the highway! What a great idea. Wish Ontario would figure that out.

Heading into the mountainous Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, where twisties await us!

Before we returned the bikes for the week, we made our usual shopping stops, Dainese store in Costa Mesa, where I couldn't resist picking up a pair of leather riding pants, and the Rev'IT store in Santa Monica, where Neda bought a pair of racing gloves. Thankfully this shopping spree happened at the end of our trip and we didn't have to carry our loot in our overflowing backpacks too far!

So sad, we return the bikes and wait for a cab to take us back to the hotel. Neda is missing the 848 already!

We spent the weekend sightseeing around Los Angeles:

Dropped into Guitar Centre in West Hollywood and played around a little bit. This was a beautiful blinged
out Roland TD-20kx electronic kit, brushed metal shells, silver cymbals, chrome rack. *DROOL*

When you can't ride bikes, the next best thing is window shopping! ProItalia was having an open house unveiling
the new Aprilia RSV4, I was expecting Max Biaggi to show up, but all they had were crackers. Same thing, I guess...

We were walking past the world-famous Whisky-A-Go-Go one night and saw that they had a "Women in Rock" concert. So we dropped in
to take a look. One of the performers, Ariana Savalas, really blew us away. I went back to the hotel to confirm: Yes, that is
Kojak's daughter! Very talented: singer, dancer, actress. But I guess that describes just about everyone in LA...

We went to Universal Studios!

Neda had to leave Sunday evening, catching a red-eye back to work on Monday morning! :( But I had a couple more days in LA. Hmmmmm... what was I going to do...?
