Mon Aug 22 2011: Seydisfjordur to Hofn |
|
Seydisfjordur (A) to Egilsstadir (B) to Hofn (C)
Seydisfjordur is a sleepy looking town that centres around the ferry schedule. As one of the key port towns, it sees a steady flow of European tourists coming and going, but they rarely stay in Seydisfjordur for long. We had dinner last night at one of the more interesting places in town - an an art-themed bistro that serves such dishes as raindeer pizza and lamb stews. Mmmm, mmm, good!
Leaving Seydisjordur in the morning
Heavy fog as we ride out of Seydisfjordur.
Hiking Viking :)
The east coast of Iceland is not that popular with tourists. Most of the traffic comes from the ferrys that arrive from mainland Europe, and these travellers quickly migrate westwards. However, there are quite a lot of interesting things to see out here:
Biggest danger is trying to keep your eyes on the road and not on the gorgeous scenery
Certified Cow Magnet
Very pretty views of the inlets on the east shore
We hiked around this waterfall, just outside of Seydisfjordur
Having a bite of reindeer @ Egilsstadir
Raindeer were imported to Iceland from Europe for farming purposes. Today, the raindeer are largely living in the wild and hunted for their meat, antlers, hides and milk.
Stopping to take it all in!
